The DbyD of today looks a lot like the Doors by Decora of yesterday, there’s just more people running around. In 2012, the founder of DbyD, Charles Jones, retired. Well, you might say “retired”, we like to say he just stopped coming in every day. Before he left, he passed the reins to his children, J.K. and Emily Jones, and long-time friends and employees, Bill and Susan Pool. This dynamic foursome is excited to bring DbyD into the next era.
J.K. Jones, Owner/CEO – J.K. is the son of founders Charles and Marcy Jones. From an early age, J.K. was a big part of DbyD. He started out building stained glass for his dad when he was 16 years old. After graduating high school. J.K. attended Troy State University (now known as Troy University) where he was a member of The Sound of the South Marching band and Phi Mu Alpha fraternity, and graduated with a degree in Business. He returned to DbyD and eventually became the Outside Sales manager and traveled all over Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and the panhandle of Florida talking to home owners, builders, and designers about the quality and beauty of Doors by Decora. J.K. met his wife, Kristan Bathen, in 2000, and they were married in 2002. They have two very active children, Hannah and William. J.K.’s wife, Kristan, also works at Doors by Decora as our Director of Marketing.
Emily Jones, Owner/Accounting Manager – Emily is the daughter of founders Charles and Marcy Jones and is J.K.’s sister. Emily also attended Troy State University and she was active in the Sound of the South band program and Tau Beta Sigma sorority. She graduated in 1994 with a degree in History with a minor in Business and Music. She then went on to Florida State University. In 1996 she met her husband, Maurice Jones and they were married in 1997. Emily and Maurice lived in North Carolina for several years before moving back to Montgomery in 2000. They have two children, Emily Grace and Harris. Emily’s husband, Maurice, also works at DbyD as the Logistics Manager.
Bill Poole, Owner/President – Bill is a close friend of both J.K. and Emily Jones. In fact, they all three went to high school together! After graduation, Bill went straight to work for DbyD, learning how to build glass in our glass studio. Since that time, he has learned every aspect of door construction. He eventually worked his way up to the General Manager position and after Charles retired, became an owner. He is an invaluable member of our team. Susan Poole, Owner/Vice-President – Susan joined the DbyD team in 1997 and started working in our finish department. She was already an expert in stain and finish, and has developed many new techniques in her time wth us. She manages the office and the finish department. We are lucky to have so much knowledge in one person! Bill and Susan met in 1997 when she joined the DbyD team. They worked closely over the years, and in 2002 they were married in a beach wedding. They have four kids, Jamie, Carrie, Emma, and Erin and two grandkids, Brayden and Olivia. The oldest, Jamie, has even started working at DbyD!
